Baroness Shields, is an American-British businesswoman & politician. Shields was made a Life Peer in the House of Lords in 2014, and later was Minister for Internet Safety and Security under Prime Minister David Cameron and Prime Minister Theresa May. She had also been Advisor on the Digital Economy and has an extensive career in tech. She had been recruited by former Google colleague Sheryl Sandberg to run Facebook in Europe, the Middle East & Africa as VP & Managing Director. In May 2018 she became Group CEO of Benevolent AI, a London-based Medical start-up. She was named the UK’s Ambassador for Digital Industries, and was also Chair & CEO of Tech City, the significant tech acceleration hub in the UK. She helped create the Future Fifty, a program which was launched by the Chancellor George Osborne in 2013. Appointed an OBE in the 2014 Honours List for services to digital industries and voluntary services to young people, she was elevated to the peerage in the House of Lords taking the title of Baroness Shields of Maida Vale in the City of Westminster.
